Updated for Changes in 2026
Tie Breaker:
Most Tournament Points
Hardest Strength of Schedule (total of your opponents tournament points)
Wins
Average % of winning score from all 6 rounds
Final Table:
There will be a final table. After the 6th round there will be 1 other game played. This will determine final standings. The top 4 in standings will be in the final table. For determining what game will be played all games in the tournament field will be ranked based on popularity From the 4 players seated at the table. (determined by total points bid, not counting carry over games). The player in position 4, will veto 1, then the player in position 3 will veto 1, then the player in position 2 will veto 1, and the player in position 1 will select what game will be played from the 3 remaining games.
Everything Else:
The games will still be randomly put into rounds but there will be some limits. There will be 6 rounds like always but each round will be considered a certain length and games in that round will all be at a similar length.
Round 1 (Friday Evening TBD): Shortest round
Round 2 (Saturday Morning 9am): Longest Round
Round 3 (Saturday Around Noon): Long Round
Round 4 (Saturday Evening): Long/Medium Round
Round 5 (Sunday 9am): Medium Round
Round 6 (Sunday 11am) Short round
Final Table Round (Sunday after round 6)
How it works:
THE GAMES:
There are a large group of games depending on the number of players. For example with 32 players there are 60 games. The games are divided into 6 rounds prior to the tournament. To see all the games visit the games tab at the top or the tab for the current year to see what games are in which round.
THE BID:
Every player is given 100 bid points that I will keep track of on a spreadsheet.
Before each round of the tournament players will secretly bid any number of their remaining points on any of the games in that round.
You can't bid the same number of points on any two games in the same round.
You will only loose the points you bid on the game you get to play, the rest will be deposited back into your pool.
What games get played?:
After everyone has bid, The games that will be played will be determined first. If we have 32 players 8 games will be selected to be played.
First any game that is the top priority (based on points bid) of at least 4 players will be in.
Then those games will be seated with players by the below criteria (see “Who plays what?” section)
Then if any of the games left are the top priority (not counting games already selected) of 4 of the players that are left they will be in and seated. This will continue until there are no games left that are the top priority of 4 of the players left.
Then the remaining games will be selected based on total points bid on them among the remaining players. If there is a tie it will be broken in favor of the game with the most different bids on it. If there is still a tie it will be broken in favor of the game that got the single highest bid.
Beyond that we will use a dice to determine.
Who plays what?
The player that bid the most gets in first and then on down the list. (this is assuming that player didn't bid more on another game, in which case it will wait to see if that player gets in their top choice game)
If there is a tie among points bid the player that bid on the least other games will get in.
If there is still a tie the player that bid the least total points on other games will get in.
After that a dice roll will be used.
HOW TO WIN:
Each round of the tournament you can earn tournament points and whoever has the most at the end of the tournament will be the winner. Players earn 10/6/3/1 points for finishing 1st/2nd/3rd/4th unless it is a 2 player game.
If there is a tie and the game rulebook specifies any tiebreakers, those are used.
If there is no tie breaker in the rulebook, a tie breaker may be listed on the game details sheet (in each box), if not the result is a tie.
Tied players split the sum total of points they would get for the two positions and the next place player does not move up in points. For example if Player A and B tie for 1st in a game, they would each receive 8 pts (10 for 1st + 6 for 2nd /2 players)=8. The third place finisher would still only get the 3 pts for a 3rd place finish.
QUICK GAMES:
Some games will be played twice in a round for the 4 players that get into it. This is because these are generally faster games. For games that will be played twice in a round (7 Wonders, and Race for the Galaxy) for each individual game we will use any tie breakers the game rulebook specifies for determining finishing order for that game. For determining overall finishing position for the round a mini points system will be used. Each game you get 6.3 /4.1 /2 /0 points for finishing 1 /2 /3 /4. The player with the most mini points between both games is the winner. If it is still tied the average % of winning score from both games will be used to break the tie and determine finishing position for the round.
TWO PLAYER GAMES:
Some games in the tournament will be 2 player games. For games that are 2 player games each player will play each other player in the round, so everyone will have played 3 games. The record from the 3 games is what determines finishing order for the round. Each game you win will give you 3 tournament points. If you go 3-0 or 0-3 you will get 1 additional point, and if there is a 3 way tie that is broken in favor of % of winning score from all 3 games played in the round. If there is a tie between 2 players, whoever won in the head to head matchup between the two players will win the tie and get 1 extra point. These games include 7 Wonders Duel, San Juan, Carcassonne, Agricola all creatures, and Lost Cities. There will always be 20 total points awarded for this round like all the other rounds (10+6+3+1=20). Possible results are (10/6/3/1), (7/6/6/1), (10,4,3,3,), (7/6/4/3).
CARRY OVER GAMES:
Due to some games becoming really popular and players not getting to play a game they wanted, in 2014 we started carrying over games each round (by points bid) to the next round. Players cannot bid on a game they have already played, and games cannot carry over more than one round. This will allow more players to play each game. The the number of carry over games depends on the number of total players. In 2023 there will be 2 Carry over games.
